Mitchell Robinson had returned in March after his ankle surgery in December. Since his return, he had averaged just 15.5 minutes in the rest of the 10 games. The team listed the big man as Questionable for Game 3. Yet, he decided it wouldn’t hurt to take the floor. If only he knew how wrong he was going to be!

The first quarter saw Robinson jumping up for a dunk on a pass from OG Anunoby. Unfortunately, the Knicks center was standing over Joel Embiid, and the Philly big man, having flashbacks of Jonathan Kuminga landing on him, pulled Mitchell down by his right ankle.

Robinson lost control of the ball and crashed down. The refs immediately whistled and awarded Embiid a Flagrant 1. Of course, this resulted in a fight with many calling for an ejection. But the officials decided the action warranted Flagrant 1. Mitch left for the locker room and was announced to not return for the rest of the game.

And in the latest of the updates, “Knicks C Mitchell Robinson left the arena in a walking boot after the loss to the Sixers.”

Robinson played for just 12 minutes tonight before he was ruled out for the remainder of the game. In those 12 minutes, he scored two points and grabbed seven rebounds. But Mitch’s bad luck hadn’t ended with an ankle-pull. Moments after being slapped with a Flagrant 1, it appeared that the reigning MVP hit the 26-year-old 7-footer in the groin. Prior to that, he had also delivered the same treatment to Isaiah Hartenstein and was penalized with an offensive foul.

That was three questionable plays in the first half alone. Of course, the major one was the Mitchell Robinson foul. On the other hand, the pool report by crew chief Zach Zarba explained the officials’ decision to not assess a Flagrant 2, which would have automatically led to an ejection.

But none of this was enough to calm thoroughly enraged Knicks fans and teammate Donte DiVincenzo.

Donte DiVincenzo was unhappy with the Mitchell Robinson foul play

Talking to reporters post-game, DiVincenzo said that Joel Embiid’s foul on Mitchell Robinson was “dirty.” While that may be so, Sixers fans were quick to bring up his scuffle with Kelly Oubre Jr. The on-court tussle happened during Philadelphia‘s March 10th, 79-73 victory over the Knicks.

In the fourth quarter, DiVincenzo had tackled Oubre to the ground after he stood over the former, following a foul. Hartenstein immediately rushed over and decided to get into it with Paul Reed.

The three New York players received techs. Kelly, in the post-game media talk, was the least bothered about it, though. He simply laughed it off and said that “the whole thing was funny” and that he got “no enemies in the league”.

At the time, no one was badly hurt. But that isn’t the case now. So, we can’t be too sure how the Knicks are going to take it this time.
