Mikaela Shiffrin arrived in Beijing hoping to reign over the slope. But things didn’t go for her as planned and she was left heartbroken after two crashes at her dominant events.
Understandably, these early setbacks raised questions about Mikaela’s future at the Games. But proving she isn’t one to be backed into a corner that easily, Mikaela has now made a stunning comeback at the Beijing Olympics 2022.

Mikaela Shiffrin makes a solid comeback
The first training session for the Combined Downhill event was held on February 16th, Wednesday. Notably, Mikaela was the first skier to go, and simply put, she absolutely aced it.
With a timing of 1.33.56, Mikaela dominated the slope and topped the scoreboard. She was followed by Wendy Holdener of Switzerland.
Not to forget, her campaign in the Olympics didn’t have the best of starts. Mikaela crashed out of both the giant slalom and slalom events. Breaking down in tears, she apologized to all her fans for her performance.

But clearly, Mikaela wasn’t one to back down so easily. She knew she needed to reset and restart and so she did. In the next Super G event, she ranked 9th and in the following Downhill ski, Mikaela ranked 18th. The downhill rank was quite commendable since it was her debut at the event.
Now, Shiffrin has ranked 1st in the training session for the Combined Downhill. 2 more training sessions will be held before the finals.
If Mikaela is able to maintain her consistency, then she has a pretty good chance at grabbing the Gold Medal. And it certainly looks like she isn’t going to let go of it that easily.
Shiffrin is satisfied with her downhill debut
Mikaela Shiffrin participated in her first-ever downhill ski competition at the Beijing Olympics. Shiffrin has revealed that ahead of her performance, she simply focused on giving her best and not on winning medals.

“I still felt strong with my skiing. Of course, my technical skiing feels pretty on point, and again it’s another day of really good experience,” said Shiffrin.
