19 years ago, on November 15, Bill Gates, then the CEO of Microsoft, unveiled the first Xbox with actor Dwayne Johnson. The event took place at the 2001 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, along with the system’s official release date.

Times Square’s electronic billboards will illuminate the New York cityscape with the striking Xbox logo and visuals from some of the most captivating games in the system’s launch portfolio,” Microsoft had announced on the eve of the Xbox launch event.

With a hefty $299 price tag at launch, people were pretty skeptical about the gaming console back then. However, Microsoft ran out of their stock of the Xbox in just three weeks. This was the beginning of a completely new era. Since then, Xbox has come a long way.

Xbox Series X performs great close to the 19th anniversary

Microsoft launched the next-gen consoles very close to the anniversary of the device. Whether it was a lucky charm or a strategic move, the timing worked out pretty well for the company. Phil Spencer, head of the console, congratulated and thanked their fans for such a positive response.

The Series X|S launch proved to be the biggest one in the console’s history. The retail stocks ran out across the globe in just the initial few hours, and Microsoft promised to try their best to restock the consoles soon.

The performance of the consoles has only grown through the years, both in terms of fan satisfaction as well as sales. Microsoft has also rewarded its loyal partners who stayed with them throughout this journey.

Phil has also promised that Xbox will focus on making long-lasting consoles that will run for a longer duration rather than becoming obsolete in a short while.

The 19-year journey of the Xbox has been quite a ride for the company and the fans, and it still has a long way to go!
