Formula 1 has completed 7 rounds of the championship, and the story for the Haas has been a bitter-sweet one so far. On one side of the garage is the Dane, Kevin Magnussen, who has scored 15 points and is P10 in the championship. However, on the other side is the German, Mick Schumacher, who is yet to score his maiden Formula 1 points.

In the previous season, Mick Schumacher completed his rookie season in an uncompetitive car under him. The 2022 season is a different story altogether for Haas, who sacrificed the 2021 season with an aim to be competitive in this new era of the sport. Unfortunately, this season has unfolded in more crashes than points for the son of a seven-time world champion.

Mick Schumacher adamant about a comeback in 2022

Last race weekend out in Monaco, the Haas of Schumacher split into two halves after a high-impact crash in the race. The driver reflected on it by saying, “The accident itself and the result were strange. It came out of nowhere without much warning.” (translated using Google)

The accident itself happened because I went a bit far in turn twelve. The tires on the right cooled off because of the wet spot. In the chicane, I placed the car wrong. I was maybe ten centimetres off the line and started to spin Wheels, turn me halfway, try to save and fly away” he added.

This is not the first crash the young driver has had this season. Earlier, he was also involved in a crash at the Qualifying session in Jeddah, and another one with Sebastian Vettel at the Miami GP.

Nevertheless, the German backs his driving approach as he said “To score points, you always have to take a certain risk. It’s so tight in midfield, every tenth decides. If you don’t take any risks, you’re 15th. If it pays off, you can lead the midfield.”

The big bills faced by Haas in a year with a budget cap has led to the team boss being unhappy with his drivers’ performance. Haas team principal, Guenther Steiner, opined on his recruit by commenting “In any case, he can’t continue like this,”

“He knows that too. Landing in the wall isn’t healthy either. There is strong competition in this sport. And it’s easy to push the limit a bit and produce a lot of kindling – especially at circuits like Jeddah, Monaco or here in Baku.” Steiner added.

The Schumacher Legacy in Formula 1

Michael Schumacher is one of the best drivers that the world of Formula 1 has ever seen in 72 years of racing. Making his debut in 2021, Mick was a popular figure because of the legacy his father had left behind in the sport. He reflected on this affecting his performance levels by saying “Of course I’m under pressure. And I’m starting to implement it in a different way.”

The Haas driver refuses to back down from the challenge and remains stubborn to score his first points in the pinnacle of motorsport. He concluded by adding, “In Formula 2, my team-mate also had a good start to the season. I turned it in my favor there over the course of the season.”
