UFC Raleigh ended on a brilliant note for Curtis Blaydes, who picked up the biggest victory of his career. Blaydes knocked out former UFC champion Junior Dos Santos in the second round of the fight and cemented his position in the heavyweight division. Interestingly enough, another fighter picked up his biggest victory at UFC Raleigh. Michael Chiesa picked up a unanimous decision victory against former UFC welterweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos.

Michael Chiesa: I'll cut this interview short, Colby Covington I'll see you in July.
Yeah, I could be down for that.

Chiesa dominated the first round of the fight, however, he did not look good in the second round. Dos Anjos used his leg kicks to a significant extent, but failed to capitalize on the damage to end the fight. Chiesa’s grappling looked better than Dos Anjos, and the relatively inexperienced fighter looked absolutely dominant in the co-main event of the evening.
In the process, Dos Anjos suffered his fourth consecutive loss inside the octagon. However, Chiesa picked up his third straight victory. He also looks confident in fighting top fighters after an emphatic victory against the former champion.
Chiesa called out Colby Covington in a short post-match interview and proceeded to leave the octagon without any further statement. Colby Covington’s last appearance came at UFC 245, where he fought Kamaru Usman in a losing effort, for the UFC welterweight title.
On an interesting note, Michael Chiesa is not ranked in the top 15 welterweights according to UFC. So, the victory against #5 Rafael Dos Anjos will certainly help him in climbing the ranking chart. However, a fight against Colby Covington seems highly unlikely considering the many options Colby will have open for himself after he returns.
Colby Covington can also look to get a rematch against current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Colby vs Masvidal at some point is also an interesting option. However, Colby Covington fighting Michael Chiesa doesn’t seem to be one of them. He is currently recovering from the injuries he suffered in his last fight and might look to make a comeback later in the year.
