Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann was lauded by Barcelona forward Lionel Messi yesterday, amidst reports linking the former to a move to Catalunya.

Speaking to Argentine radio station RAC1, Messi said,”It’s obvious that I like him. He’s one of the best right now. I don’t know if there’s anything with him or not, but we’re delighted that the best come and Griezmann is one of them.”

It is well-known that when Messi publicly appreciates a player, they usually make the move to Barcelona. The same had happened previously with both Neymar and Suarez and it is likely that history will repeat itself this time around.

Having scored 29 goals and set up 13 assists, Griezmann ended the season on a high by winning the UEFA Europa League. The Frenchman scored a brace in the final and was by far, the best player on the pitch. At 27 years of age, he is hitting his peak and would be an excellent fit for the Cules, who need to replace a declining Suarez if they are to challenge for all the trophies next season.

In the same interview, Messi also stated that he was happy with how the season fared and was contended with the League and Cup triumph. It remains to be seen how and when Griezmann makes the move from the Wanda Metropolitana to the Nou Camp, but it will likely be after the World Cup. Keep watching this space for more.
