The?Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team have officially launched their season 6 Formula E car. Mercedes will be joining the all-electric series fully, for the first time since they tested the waters as HWA Racelabs.
Now, the German team will be competing full-time and will field former McLaren driver Stoffel Vandoorne and Nyck de Vries. Vandoorne competed in Formula E last year with HWA Racelabs, alongside Gary Paffett. The Belgian driver enjoyed a fairly great rookie season with excellent performances, including a podium in Rome.
Meanwhile, de Vries will be a complete novice and will be hoping to get to grips with the car quickly.

The car was also finally revealed to the world at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and it looks stunning. On the outside, the car vaguely resembles its Formula One cousin’s livery, but with the Gen 2 car, it looks quite radical.

Coming back to the drivers, de Vries is the championship leader in the Formula 2 championship. Fortunately, de Vries will not have to worry about a conflict of interest as the start of the 2019-20 Formula E season will not coincide with the culmination of the Formula 2 championship. The Formula E project will be led by Ian James as the team principal.
The only question that now remains is, will Mercedes’ Formula E project meet the same level of success as their Formula One counterpart.
