The 2022 season saw an unprecedented scenario for the Mercedes team. That was the incorrect development of their 2022 car. The unbeaten rulers of the hybrid era developed a car that was a nightmare for them. The 2021 season had given the fans the most exciting showdown. Lewis Hamilton almost became an 8-time world champion. After the heartbreak, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said that everyone will have a target on their backs for the 2022 season. Sadly, the target was on their own backs.

However, many statistics and experts have stated that the Silver Arrows will be back to fight for the title in 2023.

The observation of Grosjean regarding Mercedes

One such observer is the former F1 driver, Romain Grosjean. ‘The Man on Fire’ on his YouTube Channel mentioned, “Yes, I see Mercedes coming back into the fight. While I see Red Bull staying at the top even though they have less wind tunnel time than anyone and everyone else. Ferrari is gonna have a strong car again.” He believes that the battle between these top teams will make the upcoming season more exciting. However, he has a clear favorite in the Austrian team. He also stated that the thing he is most looking forward to next season is seeing these teams fight for Pole position weekend after weekend.

The Silver Arrows had a difficult start to the campaign and struggled to match the pace of their competitors during the opening rounds. However, with the trial and error lasting the whole season, they rectified their car to the extent which gave them top positions in Brazil. This is the primary reason we see them in the mix to fight for the top position on the podium.

In the video, he also mentioned three other things he was looking forward to in the 2023 season. First, Piastri versus Norris. “Piastri didn’t have the best entry…but he is in a great car and great team, next to a very close teammate,” said the F1 survivor. Piastri has been the talk of the town even before his official entry as a regular driver. With two teams fighting over him and Mclaren coming out victorious in that battle, it will be interesting to see what the Australian has in store for us.

Second, Alonso at Aston Martin. “The driver is 40 plus years old and he drives like he is 22, every session, every lap, every practice…,” said Romain. We couldn’t agree more with this. Fernando Alonso’s name should be used in racing circuits, as a metaphor for age is just a number.

Third, the French lineup for the French team, Alpine. After the Piastri fiasco, Alpine signed Pierre Gasly to make an all-French driver lineup. However, the almost confirmed speculation is that the drivers, Gasly and Ocon, don’t get along. Grosjean is interested to see the direction in which their relationship develops. Also, how beneficial the combination of this duo will prove to be.
