The Bahrain GP was a thrilling affair. Ferrari and Mercedes were evenly matched again and though Merc had the upper hand on Saturday, easily outpacing the Ferraris, the Italian marquee had a much better race pace and a bit of luck on their side for Vettel to take the victory. Check out some of the funniest memes to sum the Bahrain Grand Prix
Bottas on pole
Valtteri Bottas qualified on pole position with teammate Lewis Hamilton alongside him. It was the Finn’s first ever pole position and certainly showcased that he will not fade away under Hamilton’s shadow. Hamilton initially had pole but on their second runs, Valtteri was able to outpace him fare and square. Sebastian Vettel was 3rd on the grid with Ferrari nowhere near where they should on Saturday.
Other notable performances on Saturday included Hulkenberg’s stellar Q3 lap to qualify his Renault seventh position on the grid.

Ferrari and Vettel take another victory
People were surprised when they did not hear Vettel’s signature call for ‘Blue Flags’ on the radio. Although it has to be said that there were no cars to be lapped until lap 49 at least. He ran a fantastic race overtaking Hamilton initially in the run towards the first corner and was attacking Bottas, in the front not allowing the Finn some breathing space. Bottas was also struggling with the balance of the car and realising how difficult it was for Vettel to overtake him, Ferrari decided to undercut Bottas which won them the race considering when the Mercs pitted, they came out behind Sebastian Vettel under the safety car period. From that moment onwards, it was just dodging traffic, managing tires and running a clean race till the checkered flag.
Verstappen exited the race with a brake failure despite some earlier heroics. But it was Vettel all the way to the chequered flag.
Hamilton and Merc falter
When Lance Stroll was taken out by Carlos Sainz Jr, the Safety Car was brought out. As a reaction to that, Mercedes brought both cars into the pits. Vettel had already put on fresh set and hence the two Silver Arrows came out behing the German! It was strange to see Ferrari nail the strategy considering their entire 2016 was plagued by poor decisions.
Despite Hamilton’s best efforts to create a big enough gap to Bottas, a tardy pitstop for the latter meant that both cars suffered.
Speaking of Hamilton trying to build a gap to Bottas, he slowed down so dramatically that Daniel Ricciardo was stranded behind the British driver. an unamused FIA awarded Lewis with a 5 second penalty.
Forgetful day for Red Bull
Daniel Ricciardo was struggling with the soft tires and soon found himself behind Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa in the Ferrari and Williams respectively. To make matters even worse, Verstappen had already retired from the race. The Red Bull suffered with low pace and he was being overtaken rather easily.

The McLaren Honda team were off to a rough start when Stoffel Vandoorne did not start the race. Teammate Fernando Alonso in the meantime had a lot of battles up and down the middle order. Fans were also treated to classy radio chatter when he said “I have never raced with less power in my life”. When McLaren came on the radio to discuss tire strategy, it was clear that Alonso had given up all hope when he said “Do whatever you want, man”. Finally the MCL32 itself gave up and McLaren’s day went from bad to worse.
