1. Max Verstappen was the center of attention during the Belgian Grand Prix.
The Dutch wonder kid, who was the home favorite, got tangled up with both Ferraris after trying to turn in from outside at turn 1. All 3 cars would suffer damage. After the restart, while showing clever driving, he would get tangled up with Kimi Raikkonen, cutting across after Raikkonen made the move on the high speed straights, and forcing him wide. This would happen with Sergio Perez as well. All said, this was not one of his finest races and he was lucky not to get any penalty.
2. A fine day for the McLaren team, not so good for Williams
Fernando Alonso started 22nd on the grid. Jenson Button was knocked out due to collision damage on lap 1. At the end of race, Alonso finished P7, with both Williams’ finishing behind him. Williams have to seriously evaluate what’s going on. Both drivers are struggling, and a McLaren Honda beat them at Spaa. Force India are closing in on 4th place in the Constructors as well.
3. Mercedes made the Belgian Grand Prix lead boring to watch.
Unless it’s a Mercedes 1-2, the battle for the lead is boring. With Lewis Hamilton comfortably moving up the order and then settling for 3rd, Nico driving a lone race, the Silver Arrows were hardly visible. All the drama was with the Ferrari’s and Red Bulls and the others fighting for the last point finishes.
4. McLaren Honda are slowly moving up the order.
Alonso achieved the most positive result for McLaren since 2015. Spaa is not one of their favorite tracks, yet the double world champion moved from 22nd on the grid to a strong P7. At one point, he was even running 4th. He was able to fend off some of the more powerful cars with hix Mercedes engines. It’s a big step forward, from a team that would be 1-2 laps down a year ago.
5. Esteban Ocon had a strong qualifying debut

One of the front runners for the 2017 Renault seat, Esteban Ocon had a qualifying debut he’d never forget. He would be starting the race, ahead of Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton. He would have a decent race, finishing 16th. A strong performance at Monza, and Renault have a tough decision to make for their 2017 line up.
