For a team that took all the beating in the world ever since the start of the 2015 F1 season, how important is the recovery that one has seen from McLaren in the post-Alonso period?
Make no mistake. This was a team that had very nearly or let’s just contend with the fact had become a laughing stock. Giving someone of the stature of Fernando Alonso repeated DNFs for the better part of 2016 and 2017 F1 seasons, there was little doubt that McLaren, a legendary outfit had rapidly declined into becoming holders of the lower end of F1’s spectrum as seen in the recent years.
Moreover, there was no dearth regarding certain suspicions surrounding the team given that in the ongoing season, there was anyways no Fernando Alonso to rescue the team.

But that said, look where McLaren are today with seven reasons down in 2019? For a side whom none gave a chance to, to occupying the fourth step on the Constructor standings, with 30 points, we’ve come to witness a fantastic revival of sorts.
But a lot of it must also go down to the fact that the Carlos Sainz Jr. and Lando Norris-powered outfit have been duly helped by their engineering department. While shades of improvement were visible in some races in the past season, strong drives this year at the Grands Prix of Monaco, China, and others have lifted the morale of the side.
So in 2020, can the McLaren car come to reflect the rapidly-changing team dynamics, emanating from the organizational changes?

It is believed that the car for the next season would be able to reflect the vigor that a new system is able to bring. And speaking on this regard, the team boss Seidl shared some interesting insights:
“This year’s car, which is a good step forward compared to last year’s car, has been started late after all the issues that were there within the team,” said Seidl.
“I think the full extent of all the changes that have been initiated already inside the team last year we will only see next year because it’s the first car again which is somehow in the normal rhythm of the development.

“When do we normally start, I think as soon as we put the car on track in winter testing you see some strong and weak points straight away.
“That’s the first time you start thinking ‘okay what you can still develop for this year’s car’ or are there things around which we want to tackle for the year after?”
