Martin Guptill gets Emotional over the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Finals

Just over a week  after history being scripted in the most dramatic of ways in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Martin Guptill posted an emotional message on Instagram saying that the day was his best as well as the worst day in his cricketing life.

“Hard to believe it’s been a week since that incredible Final at Lords. I think it was both the best and worst day of my cricketing life! So many different emotions, but mainly proud to represent New Zealand and play for the @blackcapsnz alongside a great group of mates. Thank you to everyone for all your support, it has been amazing,” Guptill posted in Instagram.

New Zealand had lost the finals in the finest of margins, if there were any. Guptill, in another Instagram post also thanked his family for supporting him throughout.

“I couldn’t have been more proud to have my 2 best supporters with me for the ride. @lauramcgoldrick13 you are my rock. Thank you and Harley for being there through the good times and the tough. Love my girls more than anything,” the post read.

New Zealand’s loss was truly heartbreaking for them, but they had shown great character in the defeat. After the two teams were failed to be separated within the stipulated overs, they had to go into the super over, which also ended in a tie. In the end, the winner had to be decided in terms of boundary count.

To end up on the losing side of such a grinding match, both physically and emotionally, is never easy. Kane Williamson, as he did throughout the tournament, led from the front to come out with one of the most respected post match press conferences.

England, on the other hand managed to win the ICC Cricket World Cup for the first time in the tournament’s 44 year history. This was also the third consecutive World Cup which was claimed by the hosting nation after India and Australia did it in 2011 and 2015 respectively.
