Swedish driver Marcus Ericsson suffered a heavy accident during FP2 at the Italian GP. The Alfa Romeo-Sauber driver blasted down the front straight but lost control under braking. The car swerved and pitched into the barrier before somersaulting a few times.
This was only the third crash that one of the drivers has been involved in for the 3rd consecutive race. However, in the two earlier instances, the victim was Charles LeClerc.
😨😨😨 Marcus Ericsson, OMG!
I am so glad for all the safety improvements in the recent years in @F1 , this was a huge crash and he is okay! 😮 pic.twitter.com/R21W90fWF4— Veloce_FormulaDani (@FormulaDani) August 31, 2018
One thing is for sure, it will be a massive headache for Sauber to rebuild the car in preparation for tomorrow. Being one of the fastest circuits on the calendar, a high-speed crash will be unforgiving. The barrier certainly did a huge number on the car and will need a massive rebuild.
OneThe question is, can the team fix the car in time for FP3 on Saturday? Only one way to find out.
