36- Darmian (A Valencia – 81′ ) — 8

A brilliant debut by the Italian right-back, solid in defense and effective going forward. He hardly put a foot wrong in the entire match. A deserved standing ovation when he was substituted at 81st minute.

A great start to the season by Smalling. Looked solid throughout the match, and made a last ditch challenge on Harry Kane right at the death, when the striker was looking for a shot on target.

17- Blind — 7

A quite afternoon for the Dutch. Played at center-back this time, Blind handled the duo of Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane pretty well.

Had a good game defensively but struggled going forward. His pace will be handful to deal with for opponents through-out the season.

16 Carrick — 7

A typical Carrick performance, with crucial interceptions and was the orchestrated the team from the holding position. But at 34, 60 min was all that he could manage. But a good performance from the vice-captain nonetheless.

28- Schneiderlin — 6.5

Struggled earlier on with high pressing of Spurs attack, and almost costed United when he lost the ball early on. But settled as the match progressed and provided good cover for the defense.

08- Mata — 7

A good game from Spaniard. Marked heavily, he did all he could to find the spaces but was not able to provide with the killer ball for the front line.

Not the debut the new number 7 was hoping for. Almost playing in the middle with Rooney, the Dutch did show some moments of brilliance, one being a great through-ball for Ashley Young. Struggled with the physiclaity of the premier league. Substituted in the 68th minute as Van Gaal opted for Ander Harrera.

18- Young — 7.5

Ashley Young picked off from where he left in the last season. Combining with Depay earlier in the match, he was the most lively attacker. The provider of the low cross that led to the goal, Young is could proved to be the key fo United.Targets of long-balls,the English international also tracked-back in later parts of the match, as United looked to defend their lead.

10- Rooney — 6

A poor performance by the United captain. Almost making a meal of the cross by Young, his blushes were saved by Kyle Walker. Though played some intelligent balls, he seemed to have lost his striker instinct. His performance will be a major concern for Van Gaal, as the this proves he cannot be trusted as a striker for the whole season.
