Manchester United have one month left to satisfy their fans’ appetites for new signings, having made just two signings so far. Hopefully, United CEO Ed Woodward will make good on his promise to sign more talent before the season starts. This is a quick summary of United’s perspective signings for this season.
Arsene Wenger confirmed in a press conference that several clubs have sought the services of their Belgian star, Thomas Vermaelen. United and Barcelona reportedly made initial bids of around £12m. But the Gunners are seeking a higher bid of around £15m for their defender and captain, which United might just agree to, reports the DAILY MAIL.
Manchester United have tabled a bid of around £8m for the services of Dutch defender Nigel De Jong, reports GOAL.COM. De Jong played under van Gaal in the world cup and the manager might want to have him on board in place of Vidal, who’s seemingly ever present knee injury has been a cause of concern.
Coming to the Italian end of the transfer market, Seria A club AS Roma could sell defender Mehdi Benatia for round about £30m to Manchester United as per DAILY EXPRESS. Another Seria A side Inter Milan are ready to sell midfielder Fredy Guarin, 28, to Manchester United reports the DAILY STAR.
Although it has been a long time coming, we just might see Arturo Vidal end up at Manchester United. Italian newspaper La Stampa reports that he has agreed a deal which will see him get £182,000 a week. But as per Chilean newspaper EL Mercurio, United are concerned about the long standing knee injury that Vidal suffers from. He might be replaced by De Jong, who has already worked with Louis van Gaal.
These are all the potential signings United could make this season. How many of them will come to fruition? Only time will tell.
