Are Manchester United guilty of trying to buy the title? To put it simply- yes they are.

Can they reason such measures after decades of doing it the right way, buying young talent and developing that talent instead of buying ready made talent? Yes, they can.

Manchester United have now gone two years without a trophy, something they are not accustomed to. Sir Alex Ferguson could use his genius mind and win things with a little tuning of the squad every season and that’s what speaks volumes of the Scot’s greatness. David Moyes, however, couldn’t do the same and neither can Louis van Gaal.

Van Gaal has developed talent in the past with the likes of Iniesta, Xavi and Schweinsteiger to name a few and there many more living examples of the Dutchman’s vision and ability to identify young talent. Even at United, Van Gaal has shown faith in Paddy McNair, and Andreas Pereira, who have been handed long term contracts, as well as in Adnan Januzaj; but he knows he needs to deliver.

Louis van Gaal has admitted that he will retire after 2017 and won’t be extending his contract. He also admitted that he wants to deliver trophies to Manchester United fans. Can he do so with the likes of Januzaj, Pereira and McNair? We can’t say, but he certainly has a chance with the likes of more experienced players like Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin in his team.

Manchester United cannot afford more years of mediocrity. The modern game is all down to success which is directly proportional to the money a club generates. The amount any club generates off TV deals is huge and it gets even better when you’re participating in Europe’s elite club competition.

Louis van Gaal and Manchester United have not lost their values or traditions as many speculate. The club has shown faith towards its’ youngsters but the priority lies with the first team and achieving success so that the next generation can walk into those shoes rather than having to lift the burden of delivering success right away.

Sir Alex didn’t have a 2 year deadline when he introduced the Class of 92 in the ’96 season but Van Gaal does. The ideology remains the same, but it will be evident only when United get back to their winning ways.

Till then, Manchester United are indeed guilty of trying to buy the title.
