When Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s Manchester United went up against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the Manchester Derby, their fans must have been hopeful of another result considering they defeated their arch-rivals when the two teams met last time. However, it turned out pretty differently for them. As Manchester United were dominated throughout the match on their very own turf by a blistering Manchester City side.

The official scoreline at the end of the match was 3-1 to Manchester United. Though this can be regarded as the most respectful result they could have hoped from this match. That is actually how bad they were. “We could have gone in four or five up at half-time, we had the chances”, said Bernardo Silva, who had a fantastic game himself. He also provided with one of the moments of the game. In the 17th minute, Bernardo Silva launched a rocket of a shot from 25 yards which gave David De Gea absolutely no chance to even get a whisker to it. A beauty it was.

Though the Portuguese international wasn’t the only player who impressed with Riyad Mahrez and Kevin De Bryune also showcasing their quality. Riyad Mahrez also got himself on the scoring sheet other in the 33rd minute. The former Leicester City forward finished off what was a fantastic counter-attacking move from the Premier League Champions. City scored their third goal with courtesy of an Andreas Pereira own goal.

Though one would consider Ole Gunnar Solskjær to be lucky not ending the match with a more embarrassing scoreline. As Manchester City took the foot off the paddle in the second half and even gifted their neighbours a goal through a passing error. Marcus Rashford capitalised on a Mason Greenwood through ball to earn a compensation goal for his side in the 70th minute.

What the Managers said:

“We played good in the first half. You cannot expect to come here and score four or five goals in 45 minutes, but 0-3 is good enough.”

“But of course they have pride. They are United. That reaction is normal in front of these people.”

“We cannot ask for a better response really than the second half and, with the crowd, we went for it. We created some chances and that was more like it. We won it 1-0 and that means we’re still in the tie in a sense.”

“We’ve shown before when we’re down from a home tie and turned it around. Last year against PSG is the last example for us.”
