Lucas Pouille Revamps his Team After Parting Ways with Amelie Mauresmo

Lucas Pouille was an exciting prospect when he began his career. The fact that he made it to the quarter-final stage of the Wimbledon and US Open in 2016 highlights that. The following year in 2017, he won his first ATP title in Vienna. He won the deciding match to help France lift the Davis Cup in style. 

Pouille has now revamped his coaching team and hired his fellow French nationals, Thierry Ascione and Nicolas Renavand. However, Renavand is not going to accompany the former World No. 10 for the entire calendar.

Ascione will guide Lucas in his absence. Pouille should be optimistic about his new association with the French duo by his side and should achieve the level he aspires to be at. 

The 26-year-old had reached the 2019 Australian Open semi-final under his then new coach, Amelie Mauresmo. Unfortunately, their union didn’t last long. There were many factors that led to them ending their partnership.

Lucas suffered an injury on his elbow, forcing him to undergo surgery. The coronavirus pandemic hit the world thereafter. Being a mother of two, it would have been difficult for Amelie to travel around under such circumstances. Therefore, they parted ways mutually.

Miserable 2020 for Lucas Pouille 

Lucas has not played much tennis this year, citing his troubles on and off the court. The youngster had to undergo surgery on his right shoulder. The slow process of recovery forced him out of the French Open this year, too. He ended his partnership with Amelie Mauresmo, as there were too many obstacles in their paths. He even tested positive for Covid-19.

All these difficulties somehow collided around the same time. 

Finally, after quite a long while, there is some kind of positivity and an air of encouragement in the Pouille camp as he gets a new coaching team. He has started training too. Seeing promising prospects excel is always good for the sport. Lucas is one of them. We hope to see him live up to his potential.
