The Solheim Cup 2021 began on September 4 and concluded on September 6. There were three days of exhilarating action between Team USA and Team Europe. In the end, Europe went on to retain the Solheim Cup, thanks to a fantastic performance from the squad. However, one player stood out from the pack as she went undefeated throughout the tournament – the only one to do so.
What’s more surprising is that she was a Solheim Cup debutant! Yes, that’s right. We’re talking about Leona Maguire, who came to Inverness Club and took matters into her own hands. Imagine going undefeated on your Solheim Cup debut – one of the grandest events in women’s golf.
Team Europe captain Catriona Matthew put her faith in 26-year-old Maguire and selected her on the team. In return, Leona Maguire did more than what anyone could’ve asked for. Even Solheim Cup veterans like Anna Nordqvist ended up losing a match, but Maguire didn’t.

Solheim Cup 2021: Who all did Leona Maguire play against?
Leona Maguire played on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. In short, she competed all three days – Maguire played five matches and won them all. She started off her Solheim Cup campaign by partnering with Mel Reid and played against the Korda sisters in the Saturday Foursomes.
The Korda sisters are an intimidating pair to play against, but Maguire and Reid ended up winning the match 1UP after 18 holes. Maguire also played another round on Saturday in the four-ball format.
She partnered with Georgia Hall and won the match after finishing 1UP against Yealimi Noh and Brittany Altomare. Hall and Maguire gave the Americans no chance to dominate. Leona Maguire then played both her Sunday foursomes and four-ball matches will Mel Reid and won them both!
Leona Maguire was instrumental in proving a great head start for Team Europe. Her undefeated streak gave the entire team much-needed momentum heading into the final day. The 26-year-old was up against Jennifer Kupcho in her stroke play singles match on the final day.

Maguire won the match 5&4, which means that she utterly dominated against Kupcho. The match was done as early as the 14th hole as Maguire had flown away with a terrific lead.

Leona Maguire was the best player for Team Europe at the Solheim Cup 2021. She shrugged off the debutant nerves and gave it her all.
