The IPL is known better for its highest scores rather than the lowest scores. However, through its journey of 10 years on the run, this tournament has seen some very low scores on the scorecard. The RCB team feature in this list twice, which is surprising, since the top two scores in the IPL: 263 and 248, are both to their name. Here is the list of 5 lowest team scores in IPL:
5. Kochi Tuskers 74 vs DC, 2011
The Kochi Tuskers Kerala team was unfortunate to play just one season in the IPL before being terminated by the board. That season though did not fare pretty well for the team as they recorded the lowest total of the season playing against the Deccan Chargers. The Kochi team was chasing a minuscule total of 129 by the DC team. But that’s where their overconfidence came for their destruction. The match could be said to have been marked by the 4 consecutive ducks by the middle order batsmen from No. 3 to No. 6. And thus resulting in Kochi Tuskers entering the record books with one of the lowest team scores in IPL.

4. Royal Challengers Bangalore 70 vs RR, 2014
The RCB team did not see a very fruitful 2014 season as they finished second last in the league stage with 9 losses to their belt. One of those losses was a humiliating defeat against the Rajasthan Royals where the RCB team were restricted to a total of just 70 runs in 15 overs. In return, the RR team also struggled and lost 4 wickets in the chase which can be accredited the dusty pitch in Abu Dhabi. Pravin Tambe of the RR was awarded the man of the match for taking 4 wickets to his name.
3. Kolkata Knight Riders 67 vs MI, 2008
The two-time IPL champions KKR credited with the lowest team scores in IPL, 2008. Famous as the team being owned by the Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, the KKR team did not live up to the crowd’s expectations in that season. They were bowled out for just 67 in a match against Mumbai Indians with the help of brilliant bowling displays by Shawn Pollock and Dwayne Bravo.
2. Rajasthan Royals 58 vs RCB 2009

This was the lowest total in the IPL before the yesterday’s match. The 2 match of the second edition of IPL saw this total being put up by the defending champions of the trophy. This inning is also recorded as the lowest run rate in IPL. Anil Kumble playing for the RCB side claimed 5 wickets which was the only 5 wicket haul of that season.
1. Royal Challengers Bangalore 49 vs KKR 2017
This was one night RCB would want to forget as soon as possible. Coming to the 27 match of the 10 edition of IPL, the RCB was already in the 7 position and this loss caused them to slip to the last. Sunil Narine helped the KKR side to reach a total of 131. In return, the RCB could manage only 49 runs, thus confirming their second entry in the lowest team totals in IPL record book. This was the only innings in IPL where none of the batsmen could reach a double figure score, the highest being 9 by Kedar Jadhav. This was a truly embarrassing performance by the RCB side where the KKR pacers spared none and took all 10 wickets in just 9.4 overs.

T20 cricket is often said to be a batsman’s game and it has been proved so by great individual batting performances by some players. But such small team totals are a living example of the prowess of the bowlers in this shorter format of the game.
