What seemed would be a dull day for the Spanish fans after the Free Practice disaster with Fernando Alonso, Qualifying turned into a bundle of joy as the Spanish driver finished 7th in qualifying making it for the first time in Q3 in 2017.

Lewis Hamilton took pole after beating Sebastian Vettel in second by a mere 0.051s and his team mate in third. It was a close battle between the three but Hamilton was able to edge out the two considering both of them made mistakes in their final lap.  Kimi Raikkonen finished 4th ahead of the two Red Bulls.

Rumors pointed to McLaren’s owner Mansour Ojjeh having a conversation with Toto Wolff regarding Mercedes engines at the back of their car. It is too early to speculate about it though.
