It certainly looks like some Formula One drivers want to make a fresh start to the 2020 season. First and foremost, Max Verstappen unveiled a revamped version of his helmet with more gold colour added. Now, Lewis Hamilton has followed suit with a new helmet with purple linings.

He dubbed it Purple Dove on Instagram, and was quite proud of his new lid. The 6-time world champion provided a teaser when the Mercedes team unveiled their livery for the new season. Hamilton shared a photo on Instagram of his helmet, which featured an image of the Christ the Redeemer statue.

In addition to that, there was a purple and pink trim lining the helmet, and Hamilton even asked fans to vote on the colour scheme. Evidently, purple turned out to be the big winner, as seen in the official unveil.

Though it is worth noting that Hamilton is out of contract at the end of the current year. Mercedes will have a race on their hands to re-sign the British star, with potential suitors being Scuderia Ferrari.

It is also interesting to note that Mercedes’ own future in F1 is uncertain. Mercedes CEO and team principal Toto Wolff even revealed he has not spoken to his star driver since the Christmas break. He said: “You need to respect that a sporting superstar at the peak of his ability, and at the peak of his career, has a limited lifespan where he is able to earn this kind of super money.”
