FC Barcelona is apparently looking to sign Willian from Chelsea. The Brazilian, who just crashed out of the FIFA World Cup is reportedly being closely monitored by the Barca board.

Kia Joorabchian, the player’s agent is apparently currently in Spain negotiating a contract with the club. As per football consultant Ian McGarry,” The club leading the chase( for Willian’s signature) is Barcelona. Messi and Suarez have complained to coach Ernesto Valverde that they are weak on the right-hand side and need more creativity, someone who delivers the ball quickly into the center of the pitch so they can do their thing.”

Willian has been with Chelsea since 2013 and has won 2 Premier League titles during his time there. Apparently, his previous boss Jose Mourinho who is currently managing Manchester United, is also interested in procuring his services. A tug-of-war is apparently underway between United and Barca and the latter is currently leading.

McGarry further added, “Barcelona is looking to strengthen because they know Real Madrid are looking to strengthen significantly. Willian is the kind of player who will fit in perfectly with the Barcelona squad and the philosophy with how he plays. After speaking to people at Chelsea, they are willing to sell.”

The 29-year-old was exceptional during his first few seasons with the Blues but his form has dipped of late. His performances at the Mundial were also ordinary and he had to be replaced by a far more effective Douglas Costa several times. Chelsea has apparently set a release price of 70 million pounds for him, but give his form it could drop to well-beyond 50 million pounds. However, if Messi does want him at the Nou Camp, it is likely that the Barca top brass will do anything they can to get him there. Keep watching this space for more.
