Gilbert Arenas might have made multiple clutch threes and free throws, but one incident will always haunt him. While facing LeBron James and the Cavs, Arenas missed two free throws which would have taken the Wizards to the next round of the playoffs. Former Lakers’ shooter Nick Young trolled ‘Agent Zero’ about the same in his recent IG post supporting Nate Robinson.

Many NBA players and analysts trolled the former NBA veteran Robinson after his loss in his fight against Jake Paul. However, 3-time All-Star Gilbert Arenas came to Robinson’s defense, and in his recent IG post, Arenas had some encouraging words for Nate.

Former Los Angeles Lakers sharp shooter Nick Young had a hilarious reaction to Arenas’ post. Nick wrote, “Gil after bron tap yo chest and made you miss them 2 free throws we been waiting for you to bounce back lol”

The game Nick Young was referring to is game 6 of the 2006 Eastern Conference first round between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Washington Wizards, which Arenas and the Wizards lost to the LeBron James led Cavs.

How LeBron James’ mind games cost Arenas and the Wizards the series

It was the 2006 Eastern Conference first round between the Cavs and the Wizards. Two of the best players in the NBA were going at each other. On the one end was ‘Agent Zero’ Gilbert Arenas and on the other end was ‘The King‘ LeBron James.

The series was at a very interesting point. With two games each to their name, the Cavs had won the fifth match to take a 3-2 lead in the series. The game six was off to a splendid start, and both teams were going at it. When one team would take the lead, the other team would just come back and equalize the score. At one point the Wizards had a seven point lead in the 4th quarter, with two minutes remaining on the clock.

The Cavs came back and took a 3 point lead with only 5 seconds remaining. But ‘Agent Zero‘ was not ready to back out. He hit a 30-feet jumper sending the game to OT.

With 15 seconds remaining, the Wizards had a one point lead with Arenas waiting to nail the free throws. But something just didn’t click. Uncharacteristically, ‘Hibachi’ out of all people missed both the free throws. What happened?

In a podcast Arenas said, “I kind of got a little tired in overtime but got to the free throw line… I am about to hit these, this is easy. And when he [LeBron James] tapped me, he’s like you know, if you miss these, that’s game. For that one second, I became human and thought about it. If I missed these, he’s going to win… and I missed them both.”

The Cavaliers later won the game with a clutch three from Damon Jones. Arenas career fizzled out in the next 3-4 seasons owing to his growing list of injuries. If not for his injuries, Arenas could have been one of the best scorers of his generation.
