In their bid to surmount a serious title challenge this coming season, Manchester United face a summer of extensive rebuilding. To bolster their attacking depth, United have identified Paris St. Germain attacking midfielder Ezequiel Lavezzi as a key target. In fact, the Metro reports a bid has already been placed.
Lavezzi primarily operates as a left sided attacking midfielder, but also is able to ply his trade on the right. He possesses a wicked left foot and enjoys running at defenders with drive, thus creating a lot of space for his teammates with his direct running. The past season, United have often appeared stretched lacking significant decisiveness. With Angel Di Maria far from his best, Ashley Young has been United’s only consistent wide man. The addition of the 30-year-old Argentine ace will relieve pressure off United’s attackers and perhaps rejuvenate their gameplay in the final third.
In spite of Lavezzi’s 9 goal tally in the past season, he seems to have fallen out of favour at PSG. With United one of the few clubs for which his $120,000 per week salary will not be a stumbling block, a transfer may just be on the cards.
