The Laver Cup is just around the way and will begin on September 24, 2021. While this will be the first edition of the Laver Cup in which none of the big three will compete, there is another player who has been snubbed from the opportunity to play at the famous tournament. Team World’s experienced Jack Sock has been left out of the squad.

Jack Sock dropped from Team World

For the first time, the American Jack Sock won’t be a part of the Team World at Laver Cup. Despite being an excellent doubles player, John McEnroe left Sock off the team this year. However, his judgement appears to be justified, considering Sock is ranked below the Top 150 in singles and doubles.

Sock is the only player to have been in each of the nine Laver Cup doubles matches. Team World has relied on his doubles skill, Laver Cup experience, and leadership in the past. The American expressed his disappointment on being left out of the squad via Twitter.

Sock’s statistics at Laver Cup

From its inauguration in 2017, Jack Sock has appeared in every edition of the Laver Cup. Since then, the American has competed in 12 singles and doubles events. He has won seven of the nine doubles matches that he has played, which is pretty impressive. He has won one of the three singles matches he has contested. Over the course of three years, Sock has earned 16 valuable points for Team World.

While statistics show that he has been a crucial member of Team World, his absence at Laver Cup 2021 will be noticed. The four-time Grand Slam doubles champion has battled his way back from injury to a top-200 rankings. Jack Sock has once ranked in the top ten in both singles and doubles categories.

The American last played at the US Open 2021 in New York. After receiving a wild card, Sock crisply defeated Nishioka and Bublik in the first and second round, respectively. In the third round of US Open, Jack Sock retired in the fourth set due to right leg injury against Alexander Zverev.
