Delhi Daredevils is the only team which never reached the final of IPL and with their recent performance, they might repeat the history. ‘We have a full pace battery playing today. KG is debuting’, Zaheer Khan said at the toss. It was a proud moment for Kagiso Rabada(KG) to be the part of the team.
Rabada bowled Parthiv Patel in his second over to claim his maiden IPL wicket. Although he couldn’t get another wicket for the rest of the match, he and the other Delhi bowlers managed to restrict Mumbai Indians to only 142 runs. This was looking an easy win for Delhi but it’s cricket, the game of uncertainties.
To be fair, Rabada was expected to perform well and he did, but not with the ball. It was a surprise for Delhi Daredevils when their top order failed miserably and left them hanging at 24/6. It was Rabada and Morris who saved Delhi from a humiliating defeat by adding 91 runs for 7th wicket partnership. However, it wasn’t enough for Delhi as they lost by 14 runs. Rabada had just 16 runs in 30 T20 matches he played before this match. Rabada will definitely remember this day for a time as he scored his career-best score when his team needed most but it could have been better if Delhi could manage a victory.
On a better note, Delhi might find a new all-rounder in Rabada. After the match, Rabada talked about the loss, he said,
“It’s disappointing that we’re losing but it’s far from over. We don’t blame anyone in the team, everyone has been working exceptionally hard. At the end of the day you could say we didn’t execute it quite well. The numbers talk for themselves, we didn’t execute quite well with the bat but we have trust in our batsmen. We got some real young talent and the tournament is far from over.”
According to Rabada their first push always works but last push doesn’t work. He said,
“I guess it’s just that last push, we’ve been in a few tight situations – actually all our games have been tight, none of games have been swinging either way on a massive ratio scale. So I think we just need to close it out. Today again we got close when I guess we should never have (been in that situation). We’re a fighting team and we play right till the end. We’ve thrown the first punch most of the times. It’s just about closing it off, I think that’s our main area of concern.”
Delhi Daredevils has lost four matches out of six they played and now stands at 5th position. Two or three more losses can eliminate them from the IPL so they need to play the strong game from now on.
