The Arizona Cardinals had a good start to the 2021 season. The Kliff Kingsbury led team went 7-0 at the start. However, their triumphant momentum faded away mid-season while also stumbling their way to the finish line. The Kyler Murray led offense also failed to get past their divisional rivals Los Angeles Rams, in the wild card round of the playoffs.

It was though an exceptional start; the finish was as mediocre as it could get. Yet still, the franchise recently revealed that head coach Kliff Kingsbury and General Manager Steve Keim were offered a contract extension, and they have already accepted it. It was NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport who first reported the news.
Kliff Kingsbury with the Arizona Cardinals
Kingsbury came off his three seasons with the franchise. During these three seasons, he has though had his results incremented but failed to impress every time. He led the Cardinals to a five-win season in 2019, eight wins in 2020, and then an 11 win season and a playoff berth in 2021.
Despite the mediocrity, the Cardinals offered the former Texas Tech head coach a six-year contract extension through the 2027 season. However, Kingsbury isn’t the only person to receive such a contract. General manager Steve Keim also received a contract for the same period.

“The leadership of both Steve and Kliff have been key factors in the team’s turnaround over the last three seasons,” Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill said. “We are all looking forward to continuing that progress and recognize these two individuals will be a big part of achieving our long-term goals as an organization.”

Kyler Murray still on hold for the Cardinals
It was surprising to see Kingsbury and Keim receive a contract, in light of the Kyler Murray drama. Murray, who recently scrubbed all the Arizona Cardinals-related posts from his Instagram profile and also unfollowed the franchise from Twitter and Instagram, still hasn’t received a contract extension.
Was the extension of Kingsbury and Keim’s contract justified given that Murray has also been on the team for three years and is also an exceptional athlete? Let us know in the comments below!
