We know how amazing Klay Thompson is on the court. Playing as the Small Forward or Shooting Guard for the Golden State Warriors, he has won several titles. These titles were won individually as well as for the team. The ‘Splash Brother’ won the NBA Three-Point Contest in 2016.
Besides that, he is a 3 time NBA Champion (2015,2017, and 2018). His record for the Golden State Warriors has been stellar after they selected him in the 2011 draft. It might seem unbelievable now but Klay Thompson was the 11th pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. He is very well known for his lockdown defending as well as 3 point shooting. But, where does he get these traits from?
Apparently, Klay’s father Mychal, and mother Julia, were pretty athletic themselves and played different sports.

Klay’s parents first met at the Portland Gym-
Julie used to go to the gym to play volleyball when she was in college. By chance, Mychal appeared to be participating in a pickup basketball game. Mychal remarked that they did not compel their children to become pro players and that it sort of occurred that way. “Like any father of any children, you want them to find out what they are passionate about,” said Mychal.
Klay’s father was a professional Basketball player as well-
Klay’s dad is well aware of what it is like to be an adept professional basketball player. The Portland Trail Blazers picked Mychal as their No. 1 pick in the 1978 NBA Draft. Mychal equated 13.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists in his 13 seasons in the league. He also played seven seasons for the Blazers, and ultimately ended up on the Lakers after a concise stint with the Kings. He also won two NBA championships with the Lakers. Currently, he is a broadcaster for the team.

Klay’s mom Julie played Volleyball in high school-
Just like her husband, Julie was a stellar athlete as well. She played various sports growing up. Her favorites were gymnastics, volleyball, and track. She is from Ridgefield, Washington, a city just north of Portland, Oregon. She also won the state long jump title at 18 feet, 6.5 inches. Although Julie believes that where she really shined was on the volleyball court at the University of Portland. Mychal even says that he vouches for her athleticism. I think now we know where Klay got his athletic genes from.

Klay Thompson’s elder brother Mychel Thompson played as a pro basketball player for six seasons. His stints were mostly in the NBA’s G-League. Although, Mychel recently retired as he wanted to shift his career to a different interest. He averaged 10.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists during his time in the G-League (which was called the NBA D-League when he was playing). He gave his last four seasons competing for the Santa Cruz Warriors. Here, he would make regular journeys to meet his brother in Oakland.
It is safe to say that the Thompson family is full of athletes and that sports run in their blood. Unfortunately, Klay is out for the season due to his ACL injury, we wish him a fast recovery.
