The NBA dads are sending their kids off to college later this fall. Former NBA players Gilbert Arenas, Carmelo Anthony, and Carlos Boozer are excited! Both Boozer and Melo’s kids will be attending their fathers’ alma maters. But before college begins, this new generation already seems to be facing off head-to-head. Old rivalries as well as new beginnings, the Nike Hoop Summit has given us a glimpse of what the future holds. How?

Well, alums of the Nike Hoop Summit include elite NBA players such as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jayson Tatum, Kyrie Irving, Nikola Jokic, Anthony Davis, who don’t need introduction at least this season. With Team USA vs. Team World, this year’s event features some of the best high school players from around the globe.

While Melo’s son Kiyan missed the McDonald’s All-American Game, he was in full action this time. The 6’5” guard led Team World, while the Boozer twins led Team USA. And despite a strong performance from the former, Team USA took home the win. Cameron Boozer scored 22 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Team USA. He had help from AJ Dybantsa and Darius Acuff Jr., who each added 24 points. 

Team USA now holds a 19-7 all-time advantage in the series, having won the last five matchups. The most recent win came last year, with Cooper Flagg. He is No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft! Need we say more?

With the win over Kiyan and his squad, can we also say the twins have rewritten their father’s history with a different result? Like this thriller, the New York Knicks vs. Chicago Bulls game in 2012 also went to OT, when Melo hit a massive three to seal a 100-99  win. This matchup remains one of the most exciting to date. 

Kiyan and the Boozer twins just replicated that same energy. During the Nike Hoop Summit, Melo also spoke about his hopes for his son.

Carmelo Anthony reveals inspiration for basketball practice facility at alma mater

Kiyan loves hooping, and his father’s wish for his son is not much different. He perhaps dreamt of it when he donated a generous amount to his alma mater. The $3 million gift was used to build a special basketball facility for Syracuse. One of the reasons he made the donation was to give back to his alma mater. And another reason was his son.

During the Nike Summit, he opened up about his feelings on witnessing his son go to the place where his journey began and play at his basketball facility.  “I don’t think he understood. why I put the actual gym up there, the Melo facility, it was for him. But now, years later, I think to have an opportunity to just get back up there and restart this whole thing back over and for him to kind of carve out his own lane up there, his own experience,” he said.

For his 18-year-old, who will join the Orange Men later this year, the 10x NBA All-Star hopes that he has fun, gains experience, and develops his skills. The Boozer twins are also headed to college this year, to Duke University. It was obvious that the former NBA players’ kids were destined to compete with each other. It might be too soon to make a prediction, but another head-to-head can be expected if the young hoopers make it to the NBA.
