Kingdoms Of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is the remaster of the original KOA: Reckoning which was released in 2012. It was the ambitious creation of R.A. Salvatore and Todd McFarlane but failed to live up to its expectations. Even though it opened to great reviews, 38 studios had to file for bankruptcy after they failed to recover the investment made on the project.
The game was indeed a ‘game-changer’ but was possibly ahead of its time. It featured 5 regions, 4 character races, and 3 class trees with 22 abilities per tree.

Kingdoms Of Amalur: Re-Reckoning story
The game follows the story of the ‘Fateless One’ who is brought back to life by Fomorous Hughes. Upon his resurrection, he finds that he is ‘fateless’ and free from ‘Fate’s weave’. This means that the ‘Fateweavers’ cannot see his future. To understand what exactly happens, he travels to find the gnomish scientist Hughes who brought him to life. After an encounter with assassins there, he returns to Alabastra where he finds out that he is the member of an organization dedicated to protecting the secret of Tirnoch. The Fateless one was fated to die in an attempt to destroy Tirnoch but being free from the clutches of Fate, he successfully slays Tirnoch in the city of Bhaile.
The game’s story is much more complex than the summary given above. Along with that, the game also feels like a combination of God Of War and Skyrim. You can craft items, gain them from the quests you play, and can loot hidden treasure or enemies, too. (Reminds you so much of Witcher 3)
The setting of the game was perfect to be a blockbuster but alas it failed to live up to the expectations. The game will be available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on September 8, 2020. The game also has a DLC expansion called ‘Fatesworn’ which is set to release on 2021.
THQ Nordic bought the rights of this game after 38 Studios shut down and revealed official plans to remaster the game. The bankruptcy of 38 Studios also caused a lot of financial trouble for founder and former Baseball star Curt Schilling. There have been no plans announced for the next-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X yet but with the expansion coming in2021, we may see it happen.
