Kimi Raikkonen has revealed his post-F1 plans. Raikkonen is set to retire after his second season with Alfa Romeo F1 in 2020. He plans to return and compete for a World Rally Championship title after F1. Raikkonen has competed full time in the WRC during 2010 and 2011, finishing 10th in the drivers standing on both occasions.
Kimi Raikkonen and Rallying
Kimi Raikkonen has been interested in other motorsports disciplines. Raikkonen has com. However, Kimi has actively partaken in Rallying. During the 2009 season, he competed in the Arctic Lapland Rally. He subsequently competed in the WRC’s Rally Finland in 2009.

After leaving F1, he took up a full time Rallying seat during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He raced for Citroen Junior team in 2010 and his own Ice 1 Racing team in 2011. Raikkonen didn’t enjoy much success during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He finished 10th place during both seasons, scoring 25 and 34 points in 2010 and 2011.
Interestingly, despite competing full time he didn’t participate in all the rounds.

Raikkonen speaking on his future
Raikkonen rejoined F1 from the 2012 season. After completing his second stint with Ferrari F1, he moved to Alfa Romeo Racing in a swap move for Charles Leclerc in 2019. He signed an initial 2-year deal. With 315 starts to his name, he will finish 2020 as the most experienced driver in F1 history.
Speaking about his future, in the Red Bull magazine Red Bulletin, Raikkonen spoke of how much he wants to achieve a title in WRC: “More than my Formula 1 championship. Nobody has done it before, that is another aspect that makes it interesting.”

There’s hasn’t been much of a cross over between the two disciplines. Hence Kimi could potentially be the first to have won a championship in both disciplines. It might not be part of the illustrious Motorsports Triple Crown, but it’s certainly a dual wield of titles to have.
However, from the team’s end, his future is still open-ended. Team Boss, Frederic Vasseur has clarified that the team would love to retain Kimi Raikkonen beyond 2020. From their end, they want to keep him and hope he would continue with them beyond 2020. Raikkonen scored 43 of the teams 57 points in 2019.
