Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira is one of the biggest names available on a free transfer this summer. The World-Cup winning German international is out of contract at the end of the season and Italian champions and Champions League finalists Juventus are set to swoop in for the 28-year old midfielder.
Since joining Madrid in 2010, Khedira has made 161 appearances and has won the La Liga, UEFA Champions League, two Copa Del Reys and one Club World Cup. But he has had a frustrating year in the Spanish capital with injuries causing him to make just 17 appearances for Los Blancos in all competitions this season. After Real Madrid decided not to renew Khedira’s contract, many top clubs were alerted about his availability.
According to the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, champions Juventus have come to an agreement with Khedira, subject to a medical. The Old Lady have been in search for a central midfielder with two of their midfield stars, Pogba and Vidal being heavily targeted by other clubs, and Khedira could be the perfect option for them. The Turin side have had a fantastic season so far and in line to win the treble of League, Cup and Champions League if they can get past the high-flying Barcelona.
Rumours were also going on about German club Schalke 04 being interested in obtaining the services of Khedira with manager Roberto Di Matteo keen on bringing him back to Germany. Since then, Di Matteo has stepped down as manager and reports are saying that their failure to land Khedira could be a contributing factor.
The only concern Juventus would have is the fact that Khedira is highly injury prone in recent seasons. But at 28, he still has a lot to contribute if he remains fit and could end up being a bargain of a deal for Juventus.
