Khabib Nurmagomedov vs George St Pierre is the most talked-about super fight in UFC at the moment. The greatest welterweight of all time, GSP has fought opponents from different generations starting from the likes of Matt Hughes to Carlos Condit. He has even claimed the title for the pound for pound greatest by defeating all his opponents.
However, GSP has never fought an elite level grappler such as the lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov. With an unbeaten record of 27-0, Nurmagomedov has been dominating the lightweight division ever since he debuted in UFC. Even the first double champion of UFC, Conor McGregor didn’t have an answer to the Nurmagomedov’s dominance.

As much as fans want to see this fight, there is still one question that is left unanswered. At what weight class these two larger than life fighter should fight?
GSP has been a middleweight for his entire fighting career until he moved to middleweight to capture a second title. It’s unlikely for him to fight at lightweight, which is Khabib’s ideal weight class. Although in the past Nurmagomedov had trouble with cutting weight for lightweight, he is not big enough for welterweight.
Hence the possibility of 165lbs came to the picture. However, the lightweight champion is adamant to stick to his weight class even if the GSP fight happens.
During the open workout in Abu Dhabi, Nurmagomedov made it clear that he is not moving up to another weight class to fight GSP or anyone else. Building his legacy in the lightweight division is Khabib’s only goal at the moment.
When a fan asked whether he would move up after the fight with Poirier, Khabib answered:
“I want to stay in a lightweight division. I feel I can make this weight. This is my weight. And I don’t want to jump to featherweight or welterweight. I want to defend my title and improve my legacy”

“I never talked with UFC about George St Pierre. And they never asked me. He is one of the greatest athletes to ever compete. But he is retired. If he wants to come back and fight with me he will have to cut weight, and he have to come to lightweight division. “
“I would move on and I am gonna fight with other opponents” said the lightweight champion, if GSP doesn’t come to lightweight for the fight.
