After the fight with Ferguson, he lost Al Laquinta in the rematch. Then he moved up to welterweight and lost to a very tough opponent, Rafael Dos Anjos. However, things are looking to brighten up for Kevin Lee as he is going to train in Montreal under one of the best MMA trainers, Firas Zahabi. Even though Lee has moved up to welterweight, after seeing Khabib Nurmagomedov’s performance against Dustin Poirier he is tempting to get back to 155 division to fight the champion.
in an interview with ESPN, Kevin Lee said:
“I told them I will take whatever fight. I will go back down to 155 if I need to. After looking at that last fight of Khabib, I did an interview before that fight, I was not impressed or I was not too hype on it. I thought Usman was going to be the bigger challenge and for me, I like the biggest challenge out there. After seeing the way Khabib handled Dustin, I might want to get the piece of that cake.”
Kevin Lee does think that Khabib Nurmagomedov is the best fiat the moment to challenge Jon Jones for the pound for pound title as he claimed:
“I like the biggest target that I can find. Now Khabib is the real challenge out there. He is the guy that’s gonna challenge Jon Jones for the pound for pound title. That’s the fight that wakes me up in the morning.”
There are also some fighters, lee wants to fight in the lightweight division if offered. Islam Makachez, the rematch with Tony Ferguson or the fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov are some of the fights that intrigue Kevin Lee in the lightweight division.
Kevin Lee was believed to be one of the brightest prospects in the UFC. He did put up some incredible performances in his fights. However, he always seemed to lack the right gameplan going into the fight. With training under Firas Zahabi, Kevin Lee may finally be the best version of himself.
