The UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov has been a member of American Kickboxing Academy for a long time now. AKA has been the home of many champions such as Daniel Cormier, Luke Rockhold, Cain Valasquez, and Nurmagomedov himself. The one brotherhood that stands out from the rest in AKA gym is the duo of Nurmagomedov and Cormier.
Both Nurmagomedov and Cormier have shown their support for each other on multiple occasions. And yet again, Khabib has come forward to support Cormier in his saddest moment.
Dc lost his heavyweight championship to Stipe Miocic in UFC 242. As if that was not enough, he lost his stepfather to Cancer after a few days.
On a medial call for UFC 242, when asked about the impact DC’s loss had on him, Nurmagomedov said:
” When Dc lost, it was a very sad moment for us. Same time Cain lost his mother and after a couple of days, DC lost his father. It was a little bit hard week for the whole AKA team. “

What lies ahead of DC is still unclear. He may take retirement, or he may decide to get back into the cage to get his title back from Stipe or avenge his losses from Jon Jones. Although DC has not come up with any news regarding his future, Nurmagomedov wishes DC to retire after one last fight. He wants DC to fight Miocic and get his heavyweight title back.
“I really want him(Cormier) to fight Stipe Miocic, take his revenge, and finish his career. I don’t know about his plan but I want him to fight maybe in February or March fight with him last fight finish.”

The trilogy with Stipe indeed makes much more sense than the trilogy with Jon Jones. Jones is unlikely to move up to heavyweight to fight Cormier without the title on the line. Moreover, fans will gravitate more towards the trilogy between Dc and Stipe since both the fighters have one win over the other.
Meanwhile, Khabib Nurmagomedov will be defending his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier in the monumental event of UFC 242.
