Normally, rival fans would accuse Chelsea FC of buying the Premier League since Roman Abramovich bought the club back in 2003. Every year, in a bid to improve their competitiveness, Chelsea would splurge massive sums in the Transfer Windows to bolster their ranks.
The 2015 Summer Transfer Window has been different for Chelsea compared to their rivals. They have been especially quiet and have not made any major signings (Falcao has arrived but on Loan). In contrast, their rivals have been active in the transfer market. Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United have all splurged significant sums of money to improve their first team.
City have spent £57 Million on Sterling and Delph and there are talks about Kevin De Bruyne joining for another £50 Million. Liverpool have spent £67 Million overall, with massive sums being spent on Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino and Nathaniel Clyne. Manchester United have added Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Matteo Darmian.

These players are likely to break into their new team’s first squad. Chelsea, in contrast, have added players to support them, but none who would really break into the team in the near future. With a small outlay compared to his rivals, Jose Mourinho could not resist a dig at the others.

Speaking to Sky Sports after beating Paris Saint Germain in the International Champions Cup, Mourinho said :
“In the beginning of Mr Abramovich coming to Chelsea, Chelsea was buying the title. Now, they are buying the title. All of them, they are buying the title.
It is up to us to be strong and to fight them and, obviously, to try and win it again, even without the big investments.”
Now, given Chelsea’s past nature in the transfer window, it may not have been the best of moves to make those comments, considering it their most quiet transfer window in 12 years. With the easing of the UEFA Financial Fairplay Rules, there is nothing that is stopping Chelsea from spending heftily. If Jose does not want to make additions to the first team, it is his choice. But what his rivals do, that’s really up to them.

But who can blame Jose for taking a dig in the press. He loves to use the media and has never been shy in voicing his opinions.
