With Manchester United looking for a ‘number six’ central midfielder, the 24-year-old Dutch international Jordy Clasie was recently linked with a summer move to Manchester United. Plying his trade at Feyenoord presently, a fee of £12.5million can lure Clasie to Old Trafford.
Louis van Gaal is keen to link up with Clasie who was also under his charge in the Dutch lineup. He has played very well in his three years at Feyenoord and was also linked to Southampton, which might be followed up after Schneiderlin’s probable departure. He is mobile and has the ability to set up the pace of the game. He is also a good passer of the ball and is great at creating chances. He recorded six assists last season with Feyenoord and would be a good fit at Old Trafford. He would adapt faster too, considering his previous experiences.
But the role he would be given to play would be a tough one. Also, Carrick is the best at Manchester United for that particular role, and it would be very tough to replace such a player. But at 33 and with an injury, a replacement is necessary. It is also known that Louis van Gaal had complained about the lack of height in his players and buying Clasie would surely not resolve this issue.
Clasie definitely deserves a chance in the Premier League. Obviously, he is not Manchester United’s number one priority considering the fact that they’re ready to bid again for Schneiderlin, but a young player like Jordy Clasie could play top football anytime in the near future.
