2011-12 European Champion

Terry was heroic in the first leg of Chelsea?s 2011-12 Champions League semi-final against Barcelona?a 1-0 win for the Blues.

But in the return match at Camp Nou, he got himself sent off in what would be a heroic 2-2 draw that put Chelsea into the final.

The Chelsea captain was crowned European champion despite being suspended for the match. After his side?s win on penalties, he took to the pitch to celebrate the triumph with his teammates.

The PFA Team of the Year, aged 34

Footballers will usually tell you that individual awards don’t matter, the success of the team is key. But, they will say that if they’re going to have an award, then it’s best if it comes from their fellow professionals.

The awards seemed to have dried up for Terry after 2009. That year, he was named in the FIFPro World XI. This season he was voted in the PFA Team of the Year for the fourth time. Several even touted him for the main award. But it was eventually given to Eden Hazard. For a player many thought over the hill (more on that later), that’s pretty impressive.

The 500th game as captain

In a game against Crystal Palace earlier this season, Terry captained Chelsea for the 500th time, having long since passed the previous record for captaining Chelsea, held by Ron Harris, who led them 324 times.

Winning Goal vs. Barcelona

Terry has had numerous run-ins with Barcelona over the years, but his standout performance in 2005 deserves a mention.

Following Chelsea?s 2-1 defeat at Camp Nou in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie, the Blues returned to Stamford Bridge and recorded the necessary 4-2 win required to advance.

Ronaldinho scored both goals for the Catalans in the match, but Terry popped up with the winner for the Blues.

John Terry, being the most English man in the world, loves the FA Cup. He said, “I’ve grown up with watching it on TV, it means the world to me”. This statement was before Chelsea were knocked out by Bradford.
