Jimmie Johnson might be the most popular driver to switch from NASCAR to Indycar. With 7 Cup Series titles, he is regarded as one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history and an icon in the motorsports world.

When Johnson had his first IndyCar race, he came in with a very special helmet. What made it special was the person he designed it with; it was none other than the legendary country music singer Blake Shelton. Jimmie Johnson appeared on an episode of The Tonight Show With Jimmie Fallon and talked about this.

Fallon asked Johnson, “You got to design it with Blake Shelton. How did you get involved with that man?” Jimmie replied, “At this point in my career and my life, I just want to do fun things with friends. And, to have this opportunity to design the helmet together for supporting the American legion. It’s memorial day weekend. Blake’s family served, my grandfather served.”

However, the real twist came when Jimmie Johnson revealed Blake Shelton’s idea. He said, “Blake wanted to sow a mullet to the back of that car.” “He’s like man, it’ll be so cool, mullet in the back when you put your helmet on.”

Of course, they didn’t go forward with it.

Elliott said, “Early on when I started to sit in meetings and listen to him talk, I’d be sitting in a corner and I’m like, I feel this sensation and I wanna explain it but I have this long-winded answer that just is too complicated for anyone to understand”.

Then, he explained the thing that blew him away, “And then it’s Jimmie’s turn and he’s like hey this is the exact sensation I’m feeling that he can just put it such simple terms and I’m like alright you need to go first every week.
