Indian pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, on Saturday reached another milestone after breaching the 100 wicket mark in One Day International cricket when he dismissed Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne.
India, playing their final match in the league stage of the Cricket World Cup 2019, lost the the toss to Sri Lanka and were bowling first. Bumrah, who was on 99 wickets before the start of the match forced a nick off Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne? to pick up 100 ODI wickets. He became the second fastest Indian to reach the milestone behind Mohammad Shami. Bumrah took a match more than Shami to take 100 wickets. Shami, previously had taken 56 matches. Overall, Bumrah is the 8th fastest bowler to take 100 wickets.
Bumrah later picked up two more wickets – that of Kusal Perera and Angelo Mathews – to return figures of 3/37 as Sri Lanka posted 264/7 in their 50 overs.

ICC tweeted in appraisal of the speedster’s milestone. “A century of ODI wickets for Jasprit Bumrah.? It’s taken him just 57 games to reach the landmark – only one Indian has got there quicker? Can you guess who?? #SLvIND | #CWC19 | #TeamIndia“, ICC tweeted.
BCCI also congratulated Bumrah and said, “100 and counting Congratulations to @Jaspritbumrah93 #TeamIndia #SLvIND #CWC19.
Bumrah has been hugely impressive for India for a while now. In this World Cup, he has taken 16 wickets in 8 matches so far at an average of 19.75 with one four-wicket haul.
Bumrah is the sixth-highest wicket taker in the tournament behind Mitchell Starc (24), Mustafizur Rahman (20), Lockie Ferguson (17), Mohammad Amir (17), Jofra Archer (17) and Shaheen Shah Afridi (17). Bumrah though, has the best economy rate among the top-10 bowlers in the tournament with 4.51 even after bowing a lot of overs in the death.
India are already in the semi-finals and have experimented with the team a little after bringing in Ravindra Jadeja to play his first match in the World Cup.
