Jamie Murray, the seven-time doubles Grand Slam champion reflected that the singles tennis player on the professional tour effortlessly make money by playing doubles tennis.
“I find it interesting when the singles compete against the doubles. It is fun to watch these contrasting styles of tennis on the same field. Singles will also be disrespectful to doubles but in the end, they are still out there competing every week because it’s a way for them to make money with virtually no stress,” said Jamie Murray.
He doesn’t really appreciate singles players’ intervention in the doubles domain. The singles players do not take their doubles matches seriously and do not endeavor in the match against the players who put their head, heart, and soul to win doubles matches.

“I find it frustrating, and it’s not a good thing to see for our product if there are guys on the field playing without any interest in trying to win. I’m just there to do some training, get used to the conditions and take an easy check,” he added.
He also pointed out ranking points differences in singles and doubles tennis and how divergent they are.
“You just have to mark your name every week, no matter if you win, lose or draw and there is no responsibility for their performance. While for doubles if you lose four times in a row, the ranking will go down and you will not enter any tournament. For singles, no matter what the results, they can safely continue to sign up,” Murray explained.
Doubles tennis is altogether a different form of tennis. It requires a different skill-set, acute agility and the doubles tennis players have to be an all-courter to win matches. Being a different place of work the concept of pay disparities also exists in both forms of the sport.
