Its Official: Hitman Studio to Jump in Bed With James Bond in Their Next Project

IO Interactive, well known for developing Hitman games for 20 years, is starting a new project. They teased a new project reveal yesterday, and there were many speculations about what it could be. Today, the studio revealed they are going to design and publish a James Bond gaming title. In addition, the working title for this endeavor is “Project 007”.

Ian Fleming’s evergreen MI6 agent is getting yet another title. Previously, many popular studios like Electronic Arts, Nintendo and Activision had tried their hands at Bond games. IOI specializes in stealth, third-person RPGs, and it makes a lot of sense why they went with 007’s story.

Some might say, this is not too challenging for a studio that does similar work on its most famous running series, Hitman. Clean-shaven assassin rocking a tuxedo and packing cool technology? Where have we heard that before?

Nonetheless, it is exciting for Bond fans who have been waiting since 2012 for a game, when Activision had released 007 Legends. Unfortunately, the last James Bond title was a total disaster with widely negative reviews. IOI has its work cut out when it comes to living up to the expectations.

James Bond a new era for IOI?

In the press release for this project, IOI CEO, Hakan Abrak made a statement.

“Creating an original Bond game is a monumental undertaking and I truly believe that IO Interactive, working closely with our creative partners at EON and MGM, can deliver something extremely special for our players and communities.

“Our passionate team is excited to unleash their creativity into the iconic James Bond universe and craft the most ambitious game in the history of our studio.”

There was no concrete confirmation about the platforms on which they will release this title. The game is already under development in the IOI offices in Copenhagen and Malmö. This title is going to focus on the origin story of the MI6 agent. We expect it to launch on both the next-gen consoles and maybe even one generation prior.
