It’s Darren Till or else Nobody – Kelvin Gastelum Shrugs Off the Jared Cannonier Fight for UFC 244

We have already seen ton of drama going into UFC 244. First the Nate Diaz vs Jorge Masvidal fight was in danger of being cancelled after Diaz popped positive in USADA’s drug test. Now there is uncertainty surrounding the co-main event between Kelvin Gastelum and Darren Till.

Reportedly Darren Till has not arrived New york yet due to some issues with his Visa. At the moment, there is a strong chance that Till is going to show up soon, but in case he does not Jared Cannonier is the back up fighter and is supposed to fight Kelvin Gastelum. However, Gastelum is not entertaining that option at all.

“I was told that he is gonna show up tomorrow. So I have no issues with it. To be honest I am not really concerned about it. If something happens then this is the guy we have been preparing to fight. I feel like for me to fight Jared cannonier in the back up is just not fair for me. I can’t take a fight like that in 2 days notice.”

Even if Darren Till arrives New York tomorrow, it will be difficult for him to cut weight for the fight due to these uncertainties revolving around the fight. However, Gastelum is ready to fight Till even if he is a few pounds overweight on the weigh ins, but he is does not think it’s fair for him to take the Cannonier fight in short notice. Gastelum said:

“I just don’t think it’s fair to me that I take a fight on a two days notice. Of course I will fight anybody but give me time to prepare for that person.”

Jared Cannonier is not a fight any fighter would want in 2 days notice. Cannonier is a reign of terror, knocking his opponents out, ever since he has made his middleweight debut. Although Gastelum vs Cannonier would be a fun fight to watch, there is no doubt that fans want the Darren Till vs Kelvin Gastelum fight at the moment.
