World No. 2 Simona Halep recently won her maiden Italian Open title. The Romanian now has her eyes on the upcoming French Open 2020. But the situation with the pandemic has worried and disturbed the 28-year-old player. News recently broke out that a female player had tested positive during the qualifying stage at Roland Garros, which led to Halep’s anxiety.

“I heard before the match and, of course, it worries me,” said an anxious Halep after winning the Italian Open 2020.

The Romanian player got a walkover in the finals as her opponent Karolina Pliskova couldn’t continue the match after being 2-1 down in the second set. Halep already tore her apart in the first set, winning it 6-0.  With her good form, the 28-year-old Halep will surely be aiming for her third Grand Slam at the French Open 2020. To add to this, defending champion and World No.1 Ashleigh Barty will also not be playing at the upcoming Grand Slam.

‘I’m sure that measures will take place there’-Simona Halep

The French Open 2020 management has not revealed the name of the player who tested positive so far. The organizers of the tournament have however revealed that the player would go under a seven-day quarantine. “But I’m sure that measures will take place there, and we will be safe enough to be okay to play and to be safe. I don’t know yet because I’m not there. After I get there, I will have a feeling,” said Halep later.

So far, the management has said that a total of 900 tests have been conducted. A test will be conducted every five days as a particular player proceeds ahead in the tournament. Clearly, the management is taking every possible measure to avoid any repercussions.

Halep’s confidence will surely be at another level after winning the Italian Open 2020 title, and she will definitely be starting as one of the favorites. The 2018 French Open winner will want to seize this opportunity at any cost.

The management is even trying to fill the stadiums with fans by reducing the capacity from 20,000 to 5,000. With all the precautions, experts and fans expect a healthy and competitive environment at the French Open 2020.
