Serena Williams’ Darkest Time
Serena Williams had a half-sister named Yetunde Price. She was very close to her and sadly in 2003, Yetunde was murdered by members of a gang. This was a truly traumatic experience for Serena who admitted that she did not take it very well.
“It was a real dark time for me. I went through depression. I never even talked about it to my mom. Nobody knew that I was in therapy but I was. I was so close to my sister”, she said.
Many of us cannot imagine what Serena must have gone through. Losing someone close is hard, but losing someone the way she did is harder still. This something that is not easy to recover from.

While winning 23 Grand Slam titles is absolutely amazing, it is probably not enough for Serena. She wants to be the GOAT of women’s tennis and make her sister as proud as anyone can be. To achieve this, she needs to beat one record – the most Grand Slam titles.
This record is currently held by Margaret Court, who has 24 Grand Slams to her name. Serena is very close to beating this record and will have the opportunity to do so when the WTA Tour returns in July. Given she has broken so many records, she will probably break this one too.
