Discord is one of the most widely used voice-chat apps in the world. Players use it to chat with no interruptions during games. Moreover, it is also much more reliable than any game’s in-game communication system. Unfortunately, an official version of the app is currently available only for mobile and PC users.

Although, according to recent developments, it looks like Discord is finally making its way to consoles, starting with Xbox.

The official Discord channel on Twitter recently bragged about the number of features it offers. “why the hell do we have so many features” the tweet read. From the looks of it, there isn’t much to see or speculate here. Although, Xbox’s official account stepped into the picture and replied, “But what if you added… more?”

This seems like a well-planned interaction that points towards something the fans have wished for a long time now: A Discord app for Xbox consoles. If this becomes a reality, Xbox fans all over the world will be over the moon. Currently, the go-to way for Xbox users to chat is the Xbox Party Chat. Although, it has its own limitations and issues, which is where Discord comes into the picture.

Discord has evolved into something more than a voice-chat app over the years

Over the years, Discord has grown into something more than just a voice-chat app. Not only does it serve the purpose of seamless communication, but also has many individual gaming communities now integrated along with it.

Games like Fall Guys, Minecraft, PUBG, etc. have their official channels on Discord. These are used to communicate upcoming features, news, patches and so much more. Additionally, developers also these channels to address players’ grievances and to get additional feedback for their games.

Apart from the official channels, there are numerous unofficial channels for every game. Leakers and insiders usually provide early news about upcoming features, updates, etc. over here.

Back in 2018, Xbox officially announced its partnership with Discord. This provided users an easy way to link their Discord account to their Xbox Live account. But this still only runs the Xbox Party chat and just notifies the players’ Discord friends about their online-offline statuses.

Adding a separate app to the Xbox Live Store is definitely the right way to move forward. Not only will this be an added benefit to the gamers, but will also give Xbox an edge over PlayStation who hasn’t announced any similar plans. Hopefully, this will turn into a reality soon enough.
