IPL victories in unique progression

This year’s IPL has seen many wonders unravel themselves. Blistering batting performances resulted in five 100+ scores. Unnerving performances from players like Sunil Narine, Hashim Amla, and Sanju Samson have thoroughly entertained the crowd. But this season also marks the most number of team totals below 100. This can be credited to acquired innovative bowling strategies and greener pitches.

The Mumbai Indians with nine wins so far have become the first team to qualify for the playoffs. The next three spots are up for grabs with KKR and RPS fighting for the second position. Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kings XI Punjab, and Delhi Daredevils are in contention of the last two spots. RCB are currently having a season which they would like to forget as soon as possible. With only 2 wins under their belt, RCB and GL have been relegated from the playoffs.

The IPL table on Sunday witnessed a unique coincidence. The wins for each team are in progression with a difference of one. Mumbai lead the table with nine wins and the RCB are at the bottom with just two. The MI team is followed in order by RPS, KKR, SRH, KXIP, DD, GL, and RCB. The RCB have won only against the GL and DD teams. Their last win came on 18 April when they defeated the Lions by 21 runs. No wins in the last 3 weeks have notified some vital problems in the RCB batting performance this season. Their captain, Virat Kohli has failed to successfully recover from the injury and it shows in the field. Also, abating form of Chris Gayle and de Villiers have only added to their misery.

Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, have created an example of how a team should function. With their batting backed by strong displays from Nitish Rana, Lendl Simmons, and Kieron Pollard, their bowling attack has the intimidating Malinga and McClenaghan. They have only lost two matches that too twice only against RPS who are second in the table.
