The Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council meeting recently took place in Delhi on January 27 to discuss some major points for IPL 2020. Earlier the broadcasters wanted the timings of night matches changed from 8 pm to 7-7.30 pm. However, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said night matches will start at the same time.
He also revealed the reason behind this. IPL 2020 will witness only five doubleheader games instead of many. Not only this, there are many other things included this season. While concussion substitute for the first time, Mumbai won the race of hosting the final.
Last year, Test cricket witnessed the new concussion rules. Marnus Labuschagne became the first concussion substitute, replacing Steve Smith on Day 5 of the second Ashes at the Lord’s. Recently Rishabh Pant also suffered from a concussion after being hit on his helmet by Pat Cummins during the first ODI between India and Australia on January 14. KL Rahul had kept wickets in the absence of Pant.

The final of IPL 2020 will take place in the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 24. Moreover, the third umpire will take the ‘no-ball’ call instead of the on-field umpires. It took place recently during the ODI series between India and West Indies.

Sourav Ganguly on IPL 2020 details
“There will be no change in the timing of IPL night games. It will start at 8 pm like earlier years. We will have only five doubleheaders (4 pm and 8 pm) this time. We have decided to reduce the number of doubleheaders,” Ganguly said to the reporters. “The concussion substitute and the no-ball rule are new additions for the season.”

Meanwhile, the BCCI will also host an ‘All-Stars Game’ between all the top international players ahead of the start of this season on March 29 for a charitable cause. Although the venue for the game will be decided later, Ganguly said the BCCI will give the responsibility to an appropriate forum.
“It will be an IPL All-Stars Game three days before the start of IPL. The venue is not Ahmedabad as it is still not match ready. We have not decided on where we will make the donation,” the BCCI president, as well as, former India captain said.
