The Delhi Daredevils faced off against the Chennai Super Kings in Match 52 of IPL 2018. This was merely a formality between the two teams as CSK have already qualified for the playoffs. Delhi on the other hand, are nowhere near contention and are only playing for pride. As usual, the winner of the toss, CSK in this case, elected to bowl.
Delhi sent out Prithvi Shaw and skipper Shreyas Iyer first and they set the ball rolling. But the CSK bowlers soon sent them packing with scores of 17 and 19 respectively. Rishabh Pant and Glenn Maxwell were up next, but Maxwell only lasted 7 deliveries and 5 runs. Pant was then joined by Vijay Shankar and the two forged ahead for Delhi. Pant would depart later for 38 and his place was taken by Harshal Patel. Together, Patel and Shankar finished the job with individual scores of 36 and 36 and a total of 162.
When the second innings of Match 52 of IPL 2018 began, Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu got off to a good start. Soon, Watson was the first to depart, for just 14 runs and Suresh Raina took his place. Raina too didn’t last long, being dismissed for 15. Even the captain himself, MS Dhoni couldn’t last longer than 17 runs. Sam Billings could only muster a single before perishing as did Dwayne Bravo. In the end, Ravindra Jadeja and Deepak Chahar were the last men standing. But an extra 27 and 1 run was not enough to see them attain victory. CSK only scored 128 for the loss of 6 wickets and slumped to a 34-run loss to the Delhi Daredevils.
In the bowling side of things, Chahar, Lungi Ngidi, Jadeja and Shardul Thakur managed a wicket, with Ngidi claiming 2. While on Delhi’s end, Trent Boult, Sandeep Lamichhane, Harshal Patel and Amit Mishra bagged wickets, Boult and Mishra snagged 2 each.
